Christa Moran, MEd is an ASL/English interpreter, trainer and supervisor in the Interpreter Services Department at the University of Michigan Hospital. She is a Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CoreCHI-P) through the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI), holds NIC certification through the registry of Interpreter for the Deaf (RID) and has state of Michigan medical/mental health and DeafBlind endorsement. Christa combines her interpreting and teaching through the workshops and trainings she has developed for interpreters and staff, faculty and learners at Michigan Medicine. Additionally, she works to advance health equity and inclusion for patients with disabilities.
Tamas Farkas joined CCHCP in 2019 as the Language Access Programs Director. He has worked with and trained numerous health departments, government agencies, hospitals, language services organizations, and universities on various aspects of medical interpreting and language access. In addition to being CCHCP’s lead trainer for the Bridging the Gap medical interpreting and training of trainers programs, he worked on the development of CCHCP’s Medical Interpreting in Mental Health curriculum, and has developed other curricula related to language access and equity in health care. Tamas has also overseen the translation of several medical, mental health, and genetics glossaries.
Vonessa Costa, CoreCHI-P
Vonessa Costa is Sr. Director of Quality for the Health Care Interpreter Network, a collaborative of hospitals that share interpreter resources. She is former director of Multicultural Affairs and Patient Services at Cambridge Health Alliance, named number one in Massachusetts for Health Equity and Community Benefit by the Lown Institute, and former director of Cross Cultural Communication Institute at CCCS, Inc. For twenty years, Vonessa has trained interpreters and clinicians. She co-authored articles published by AMA Journal of Ethics and The Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety. She is Chair of the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters.

Jaime Fatás-Cabeza MA, USCCI, CHI-Spanish
Jaime Fatás-Cabeza MA, USCCI, CHI, is Associate Professor of the Practice and Director of the undergraduate program in healthcare and legal interpreting and translation at the Spanish and Portuguese Department at the University of Arizona, where he also teaches medical Spanish to doctors in the Emergency, Family, Internal, and Behavioral medicine departments. He is certified by CCHI (Eng/Spa) and the United States Courts (Eng/Spa). He served as a commissioner with CCHI and is a member of NCIHC’s Home for Trainers Webinars Work Group. Jaime is a published translator and author. He translates and interprets regularly for academic publishers, biomedical research units, and legal services.
