Running for Director of the NCIHC Board of Directors
I am interested in serving as a director for NCIHC. I am a board member for Texas Association for Healthcare Interpreters and Translators, as well as an active member of the Texas Joint Committee for Languages. These orgs have led me to see a bird's eye view of medical interpreting pedagogies for a variety of learners.
With this work, I developed a new BA in Spanish Translation and Interpreting that starts Spring 2026. This major will train, nationally certify (CCHI), and provide a minimum 150hrs of experience in medical interpreting. I am also building out talent pipelines with high schools and hospitals to provide an industry minimum 40hrs training and national certification to high school students interested in working in a hospital setting before college and medical professionals seeking certification to work directly with Spanish speaking patients with LEP. I love this work! It is recent passion of mine.
NCIHC would provide me with a tremendous opportunity to learn, share, and it would give me a platform to get more people to listen in a variety of professional settings (education, healthcare). Muchasimas gracias, Dr. William Benner
