Jessica Ansbach
JESSICA ANSBACH
Running for Director of the NCIHC Board of Directors

As a newer member of NCIHC, please allow me a brief introduction. My name is Jessica Ansbach, and I am a language services manager and certified ASL interpreter (RID-NAD National Interpreter Certification, or NIC), living and working in the state of New Jersey.

As a longtime member of the Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf national organization and local affiliate chapter, I am familiar with the responsibilities that come with volunteering for an organization committed to language access and its stakeholders. Over the years, I have been an active member, but have also chaired and assisted with conference planning, and provided professional development workshops.

My interest in the NCIHC board director position is to commit my volunteerism to an organisation that reflects not only my general background as an ASL interpreter, but my specialized field of healthcare interpreting and language operations for over a decade.

After attending this year's Language Access Congress in Little Rock, I reflected on how much both the signed and spoken language fields have to learn from each other, and the mutual benefit in engaging in open and curious dialogue on how to preserve the values of our field as well as how to proactively embrace forward progress in this technological age.

As an interpreter trainer, I facilitate engaging learning sessions, dialogues, and career coaching plans for healthcare workers with bilingual fluency who want to break into the field of interpreting. I thrive on building engagement and connecting potential collaborators across multidisciplinary teams and I hope to have the opportunity to apply these skills as a member of the NCIHC board.

Years ago when I first started facilitating our medical interpreter training class, a student described an aspect of her Slovak culture that I was so impressed with, I kept it on my "shortlist" of values: "we give, and when asked to give more, we are honored to do so."  Thank you for your consideration, Jessica Ansbach, NIC
