SILVIA VILLACAMPA Running for Director of the NCIHC Board of Directors
I am seeking one of the director positions because it is a special opportunity to contribute and support NCIHC's mission. I greatly admire and appreciate all that it has accomplished and what it currently brings to the realm of health care interpreting.
My professional experience in healthcare interpreting ranges from working as a freelance medical interpreter to joining a language services company during its start-up phase and growing within that company and now serving as an officer of the company and member of its board of directors.
The company and the work that I have been involved with has been heavily in health care settings and I have been responsible for our contracts and compliance to work in these settings. I can bring a strong industry voice to support NCIHC's mission. I look forward to providing input and working collaboratively toward the goals of this reputable organization. I am dedicated to advancing national standards, interpreter professionalism, and equitable access in healthcare communication.
Besides the recent professional experience outlined in my resume, I have over 10 years of experience (1997 - 2009) working on federal contracts as a bilingual English/Spanish information specialist for health-related websites that included: womenshealth.gov, minorityhealth.hhs.gov, and AIDSinfo. Much of the knowledge and experience I gained and provided to the public and for websites was related to health care disparities. Having the opportunity to be part of the board would allow me to combine my professional and personal experiences toward the activities, goals, and objectives of the NCIHC.
