NCIHC is excited to welcome you to the 15th AMM – we are eager to have you join in on the conversations with our professionals who will be sharing and discussing subjects that you care about, ones that will enrich your career and meet NCIHC’s mission of promoting and enhancing language access in health care.

This year’s theme is Moving Forward: Stronger, Wiser, Together.  Over the last two years, the world has changed dramatically due to Covid-19.  This change has affected every aspect of human activity and most certainly healthcare interpreting.  Many healthcare interpreters have lost their jobs, moved from on-site activities to remote work, or have left the profession.  Most notably some interpreters paid the ultimate price of losing their lives as they valiantly provided on-site services for those in desperate need during this raging pandemic.  We are now beginning, however, to move out of the ravages of the pandemic and it is time for us to move forward being stronger, wiser, and together.

NCIHC has chosen to honor all of those who work in Language Access by making the 2022 Annual Membership Meeting free for all members and it will be virtual.   This year we have a lineup of amazing topics that will embrace our theme of moving forward, and we are confident that there is something for everyone.

AMM Keynote Speaker

Andrea Salinas
Oregon State Representative

This year’s keynote speaker is Oregon State Representative Andrea Salinas, a daughter of an immigrant.  She has been on the Oregon frontlines fighting for more accessible quality health care, raising the minimum wage, and passing the nation’s most progressive paid family leave bill, to name just a few of her significant accomplishments.  In 2021 Representative Salinas was the chief sponsor for House Bill 2359, wherein she sought to align Oregon law with Federal law so that healthcare providers utilize certified and qualified healthcare interpreters when interacting with a patient for whom spoken English is not the person’s preferred language. The law (HB 2359 signed into law on July 14, 2021) seeks to close the current loophole in Oregon law by requiring providers and agencies to work with certified or qualified healthcare interpreters who have been enrolled in the interpreter registry managed by Oregon Health Authority.
